Starting again (Polyphasic sleep: day 5, fourth attempt) November 24, 2007 20:02

I’ve decided to try polyphasic sleeping again, and so far it is going alright. I really tried to make monophasic sleeping work for a while (I went to bed at 11 PM and got up at 8 AM), but I was always tired anyway. I also overslept all the time (until 10 or 11 AM), which destroyed my whole day.

Anyway, here’s my new schedule:
01.00 – 05.00 AM (Core sleep)
09.20 – 09.50 AM (Nap 1)
15.15 – 15.45 (Nap 2)
21.00 – 21.30 (Nap 3)

I really like this schedule so far, it’s nice getting up this early in the morning. Also, I don’t have to nap during my lunch hour anymore. Anyway, things are going quite well so far. I don’t have any trouble falling asleep, and I’m not extremely tired. I am definitely tired, but not so tired that I can’t keep my eyes open. I really hope things will only get better from here!

Oversleeping (Polyphasic sleep: day 7, third attempt) June 30, 2007 10:26

I slept a whole hour extra this morning… Grrrr!

Slightly less tired..? (Polyphasic sleep: day 6, third attempt) June 30, 2007 01:57

I might actually have been feeling a bit less tired today :). When I woke up from my core nap I was tired for about two hours, as usual, but then I felt pretty okay. I almost didn’t feel tired when it was time for my nap at lunch! Despite that. I didn’t have any trouble napping and when I woke up I was pretty tired again. The tiredness went away relatively quickly, though. I became more tired during the evening, and I was seriously tired when I took a nap at 00.30. I almost slept for 55 minutes during that nap, since I was clumsy when I set my alarm clock, but luckily Nevyn woke me up after about 30-35 minutes (which still was 10 minutes too long…). Now I’m feeling tired but not extremely so.
Btw, during my core sleep I woke up one hour earlier than I was supposed to, that is, after only two hours of sleep. The weird thing is that the same thing has happened several times before (during my second attempt to become polyphasic). A sleep cycle is supposed to be 90 minutes long, so it can’t be that I woke up at the end of a sleep cycle, unless my sleep cycle has mutated into 60 or 120 minutes or something. I didn’t feel particularly rested when I woke up, though. Anyway, it was actually pretty nice to wake up and find out that I could sleep for another whole hour!

Still tired (Polyphasic sleep: day 5, third attempt) June 29, 2007 01:39

Being tired all the time is becoming a bit aggravating… I seriously hope things will start getting better soon. My naps have been good, though I’m always tired when I wake up. Today I woke up from my core sleep with a headache, but fortunately it disappeared while I was in the shower. Oh, and last night I might have fallen asleep for ten minutes or so while I was reading… I didn’t have any problems falling asleep when it was time for my next nap, though, so I don’t think it caused any harm.
I have to struggle to keep my eyes open now, so I’m off to do some exercise to keep myself awake.

New schedule (Polyphasic sleep: day 3, third attempt) June 27, 2007 03:41

I’m going to work at the library from 09.00 – 13.00 every day this and next week, so I’ve had to change my schedule a bit. I’ll probably go back to the original schedule once I’m done working, though. Here’s the new schedule:
05.00 – 08.00 (core)
13.30 – 13.50
19.00 – 19.20
24.30 – 24.50
I practiced pilates again this morning, but my body was exhausted from sleep deprivation, so it didn’t go too well. I did some more exercise about two hours ago, which went much better (since I’ll get up at 8 in the morning and start working at 9, I won’t have time to exercise before work, so that’s why I’m exercising in the middle of the night).
My naps have been good so far, I haven’t had any trouble falling asleep. I’ve been pretty tired, but not so tired that I haven’t been able to stay awake in between naps. Hopefully things won’t get much worse..

Going polyphasic again (Polyphasic sleep: day 1, third attempt) June 25, 2007 08:56

My new schedule looks like this:
04.00 – 07.00 (core)
12.00 – 12.20
17.30 – 17.50
23.00 – 23.20

I tried to take a nap at 23.00 last night, but I don’t think I managed to fall asleep. The core sleep went better, ‘cause I was really tired then…. It was pretty hard to wake up even though I had set two alarms, but I have an additional alarm I can set tomorrow.
I did some exercise (pilates) when I woke up, which I haven’t done in a while. I really have to get better at that.

Summer! June 23, 2007 09:17

So, summer holidays started a few weeks ago. I’ve been pretty busy since then, but now I don’t have anything else planned for the summer so I’m mostly going to play videogames…
A small note about school: I found out a couple of days ago that I’ve recieved the highest grade in all my courses this year, so things are going as planned.
Anyway, this is what I’ve been up to:
PLAY! A Video Game Symphony
First, Nevyn and I went to PLAY! in Stockholm again. Feigh and Sterd came along. It was pretty much like last year, I guess.
Rockness

A few days after that we (Nevyn, three guys from his class, some other guy I didn’t know and I) went to Rockness, a music festival in Scotland. It took about two days to get there by train, airplane and bus! Luckily I slept most of the time while traveling (I went back to monophasic sleeping, because otherwise it wouldn’t have worked out). Anyway, we camped in Scotland for three days, which is not something I want to do again anytime soon. But the concerts were pretty cool, especially Chemical Brothers.
Dreamhack
For the first time, we (Nevyn and I) went to Dreamhack Summer! It was the third time I’ve been to DH altogether, though it feels like I’ve been there more times… The best thing that happened during DH this time was that I won a Xbox 360! I don’t have any games for it yet, though, so I’ve barely tried it out…
I got a cold when I came back from Scotland, so I’m still monophasic (which is too bad, because it would have been neat to sleep polyphasically at Dreamhack). I’m planning on going back to Everyman on Monday, though, because I’m feeling pretty good now. I really hope it will be easier to make the transition this time!

Polyphasic sleep: Day 13 (Second try) April 21, 2007 10:18

Not much has happened since my last post, I’ve followed the schedule and things have been OK. I haven’t adapted yet, though, and I think I’ve started to get more tired. I actually overslept this morning (slept from 04.00 AM to 08.00 AM instead of 04.00 AM to 07.00 AM), which hasn’t happened before. I better start using two alarm clocks.
Quitting caffeine is going surprisingly well. I’ve only had caffeine free coffee and tea since I started with polyphasic sleeping, and I haven’t noticed any withdrawal symptons.

Polyphasic sleep: Day 4 (Second try) April 12, 2007 03:02

So far, things are going fairly well. I haven’t overslept, and I actually haven’t been that tired even though I’ve stayed away from caffeine since monday. I have however accidentaly fallen asleep twice when I shouldn’t (the first time I slept for 30 minutes, the second time for 10 minutes).
The hardest part is waking up after a nap, because I usually feel even more tired after napping. 1-2 hours after a nap I feel much less tired, though. I’ve also been practicing pilates every morning, which helps me wake up some.
Almost time to go to bed now…

Polyphasic sleep: Day 1 (Second try) April 09, 2007 02:44

Okay, it’s time to give it another shot… My cold has gotten a lot better now. Also, I’m not going to have any classes this week, so this is pretty much an ideal time to go through the adjustment period.
I’m also going to try out GTD (Getting Things Done), which seems like a great way to get more things done without feeling stressed!
